Did you know there are actual castles in the world?
The Blarney Castle is located in County Cork, Ireland. It was built in the 15th century. This castle is one of the oldest and most historic of all the buildings in Ireland.
Some of the walls in the Blarney Castle measure up to 18 feet thick!
Who built the Blarney Castle?
The King of South Munster. His name was Dermot MacCarthy.
When he built the castle, he also created a series of tunnels and caves beneath it.
The Blarney Stone
Another popular attraction at the castle is the Blarney Stone. This slab of limestone measures four feet long and one foot wide. It is built into the castle’s battlement 83 feet above the ground.
Legend has it if you kiss the Blarney Stone you will be given the gift of gab. There is usually a long line of people waiting to kiss the stone.
The trouble with this Blarney Stone is to reach it you have to lie on your back and let your head hang over a ledge. YIKES!
