Fun With Food – Fruity S’Mores


S’Mores are a summertime favorite filled with ooey, gooey goodness.

Today, we’re going to take the S’More and give it a fruity twist.

  • Large Marshmallows
  • Graham Crackers
  • Squares of Milk Chocolate
  • Thin Slices of Strawberry
  • Wooden Skewer or Fork


Step #1 – Remove the stem from the strawberry. Slice thinly. Set aside.

Step #2 – Take a graham cracker and break it in half.

Step #3 – Break the chocolate to fit the graham cracker.

Step #4 – Place the chocolate on one graham cracker square. Set aside.

Step #5 – Stick a fork or skewer into the marshmallow (about half way down).

36707877_10213795119405521_3043778631877787648_nStep #6 – Toast the marshmallow over a fire or hot burner until it is toasty, brown, and soft.

Be careful not to burn yourself.

Step #7 – Carefully push the marshmallow onto the graham cracker with the chocolate.

Step #8 – Place the sliced strawberries on top of the marshmallow.

Step #9 – Top with second graham cracker. Push down so the chocolate begins to melt.



For an added twist on this fruity S’More try using fresh raspberries, sliced grapes, or even a dollop of peanut butter. Instead of squares of chocolate, try a cocoa spread such as Nutella. 

Fun With Food Facts – The S’More

  1. The first known s’mores recipe was published in the Girl Scouts handbook Tramping and Trailing With the Girl Scouts in 1927. The snack was originally called “some mores.”
  2. Campers at Deer Run Camping Resort in Gardners, Pennsylvania, recently made one giant S’More. It weighed 267 pounds and had 140 pounds of marshmallows, 90 pounds of chocolate, and 90 pounds of graham crackers!
  3. According to the S’Mores Cookbook, Americans buy 90 million pounds of marshmallows every year. Fifty percent of marshmallows sold in the summer months are used in the making of S’Mores.
  4. The S’More is so tasty that you can find its flavor in other treats such as Pop Tarts and ice cream.
  5. According to The Hershey Company, they produce more than 373 million milk chocolate bars each year, enough to make 746 million s’mores.
