• Frankenstein is not the name of the monster in Mary’s book. Victor Frankenstein is the name of the mad scientist. The monster had no official name.
• Frankenstein is the name of a Castle in Germany. It means “Stone of Franks.” Mary visited this castle on one of her journeys. Perhaps it contributed to the name in her book.
• Critics did not like this story when it first came out. They called it, “horrible, disgusting, and absurd.”

Today, Frankenstein (the monster) is still a favorite Halloween costume for both kids and adults.
